Description Of Activity

How to play

  1. One of the students of the class stands at a point holding a stick or a rope at one end, second student holds the other end of the stick and stands steadily keeping the stick horizontally in in such a way that it just in reach of both of them.
  2. Then the teacher calls third student to take the end of the stick from the second student and stand steadily beside the second child. The teacher calls remaining students also one by one to do the same.
  3. This process continues until they result in the formation of a closed loop. As all the students are standing at same distance from the first student I.e equal to the length of the stick or rope, they could form a circle.
  4. Finally one child can mark a circle on the floor  around the students using chalk powder.

Variations

The size of the circle so formed can be changed by changing length of the rope or stick and the number of students that are involved in the formation of the circle. The teacher or coach has to give directions to hold the stick properly while fixing the position of each individual.

Coaching Tips

  1. The circle defined as a collection of points which are equidistant from a fixed point. The first students is the center of the circle. Each of the remaining children/students is like a point on the circle. The distance between the boy at the center and any student around him is the radius of the circle so formed. The distance of any two opposite students via the center is the diameter of the circle
  2. Then teacher explains how  30 yard circle and boundary line on a cricket ground can drawn with the help of a rope.
