Hula hooping

Learning Outcomes

Understand that white light of Sun is consists of seven colours.

Describe the dispersion of light.

Develop knowledge about Hula hooping.

Develop coordination skills among students.

Description Of Activity

1) Students of class VIII will be assembled on the playground.

2) Class will be divided into 5 groups and each group consists of of 8 students.

3) One student of each group will participate in this activity.

4) The participants should take a Hula hoop ring which is of seven rainbow colours (VIBGYOR).

5) The participants will start Hula hooping, i.e. consist of 8 steps.

i) Put the hula hoop on the ground.

ii) Step inside the hoop. 

iii) Move your hands toward the edges of the hoop.

iv) Bring the hula hoop up to your waist level. 

v) Grip the hoop firmly with two hands.

vi) Spin the hoop. 

vii) Start to move your waist in a circular motion. 

viii)Continue spinning the hoop. 

6) Rest of the students will observe this activity and see that the colour of Hula hoop ring looks white though it has seven colours.

7) This exercise shows that white colour consists of seven colours and this phenomena is known as dispersion of light.

Variations

Size of group may vary depending upon class strength.

We can be conducted this exercise on the classroom or MP hall.

Coaching Tips

Students are instructed and guided by teacher.

They are encouraged to play safety and enjoy the game.

They should practice this activity regularly.

Teacher can easily explain the concept of sunlight- white or coloured.
