Hop Bunny Hop

Learning Outcomes

  1. Enabling students to play teacher’s self-invented Game – ‘Hop Bunny Hop’
  2. To help students know ‘Antonyms’ in English in a play-way method
  3. To enable students to play the Game Activity vigorously and sportively inculcating sportsmanship among them
  4. To develop the qualities such as reasoning, perceptivity, decision making, leadership and team spirit

Description Of Activity

How to play 

  1. The Class will be divided into two groups (depending on the strength of the Class).
  2. There will be two Group Leaders/ group Captains.
  3. There will be two separate waiting lobbies with 15 circles for each team (Totally 30 circles with two pairs antonyms. In each circle there will be a word written on a paper/ written on the ground with a chalk.) Each participant of both of the teams has to find out the correct antonym of the word informed to him. He will have to reach by hopping to the circle of the correct antonym. The structure of the game will be such as shown in the picture.
  4. There will be drawn a hopping line connecting the circles (participants may hop through the circles or along the circles.
  5. Before the start of the Game 15 players of the either side will be waiting in the lobby.
  6. There will be a toss between the two group leaders whosoever will be the winner will instruct one of the students waiting in the lobby to hop at a word (in the circle) which he would pronounce loudly. Immediately the other group leader will instruct his participant to reach to the antonym word by hopping within the least time. After that the other group leader will also reciprocate the same. This will be done until all the pairs of antonyms will finish. All the participants will remain in the circle turn by turn until the game is finished.
  7. The Participant students will have to reach to the word following the direction of arrows as shown in the picture. They cannot use any short-cut to reach to the destination word.
  8. Meanwhile there will be a scoreboard on which there will be written score (time consumed by each participant from both of the teams to reach to the word).  There will be a Time Keeper also who will inform the time consumption by each participant to the Scorer.  If the participant reaches the wrong word his score will be -10. The participant may be helped to reach the correct word by his teammates. Finally, total time consumption of both of the teams will be calculated. Then, the team whose time consumption will be less that team will be the winner. (The scoreboard will be maintained in such a way as shown in the picture)
  9. While hopping in the direction of the circle other participants may give out a cry Hop Bunny Hop to cheer up that participant. Surely this will lead to the students encouragement, fellow feeling, team spirit and healthy competition.

Variations

The same game of antonym finding also can be played in synonyms, noun formation, verbs/ root words etc. too. By such an innovative games students’ vocabulary and physical fitness will also enrich.

Coaching Tips

  1. Jumping with a pertinent posture suitable to the hopping of a rabbit like putting hands on the waist and jumping with both feet together.
  2. Keeping specified distance among all the circles and the lobbies of the Teams

 

Equipment/Material Required

  1. Scoreboard (to display the score),
  2. Chalk Sticks (to write the score),
  3. Chronometer/ Timer clock (to count the time consumed by each participant to reach the circle),
  4. 30 papers with antonym words to be fixed in the circles.
