800 meter race to understand Linear Graph

Learning Outcomes

1. The Students will Learn Liner Graph while racing

2. The  Students will  be able to develop the ability to visualise , calculate relevant values, Interpretation and data collection.

3. The students will be able to display , summarise the data collected in the form of linear graph.

4. The students will  learn the liner graph concept along with having physical endurance while playing.

Description Of Activity

Students of Class VIII assembled in the Playground

Students need to make 10 tracks in the playground measuring 200 meter lap  having start and Finish Position

Students Need to run in the track and needs to take 4 laps to complete 800 meter race.

Students Divided in the group of 10 and asked to start race Group wise.

The students of one group asked to Race and remaining student  needs to note down the time to complete each lap by each of the runners and total time taken by the runners to complete the race

Students asked to take data related to their own running from the student who collected data of that particular student and make a graph using the data representing time and completion of 200 meter , 400 meter , 600 meter and 800 meter and need to join each point represented and check wheter that data forms a straight line 

The one who runs with consistent speed gets the linear graph others not.

Variations

Size of Group may be different,

Other game may be used in place 

Race may be 1600 meter etc

Coaching Tips

Students may be guided to run with constant speed to get the linear graph

Students will be encouraged to play and  do physical activities 

Equipment/Material Required

Play ground , measuring tapes, stop watch etc
