Description Of Activity
How to play
Before taking students for mathematical hurdle race, they are acquainted with the terms faces, edges and vertices 3-D shapes.
Students (40) to be divided in groups of 4 by making them stand in line or circle and making them count 1,2.3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10.3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10. Thereafter asking them to groups of 1 s,2 s so on.
Students will be acquainted with the following rules.
Rules:
In place of hurdles, a covered 3-D shape along with pen-paper will be placed at 1st place and only object in 2nd ,3rd and 4th place.
First participant of each team will run to the object, unwrap it, identify object write name, number of faces, edges and vertices on the paper and again run with paper hand over the paper to the second member of the team.
Second member of the teams will rush to the second object, identify it, name it, count number of faces, edges and vertices and write this on paper and run with the paper and hand over to the third participant and same will be repeated by other participatory members.
Finally, fourth participant will hand over the paper at finishing point.
Winners will be declared on the basis of correct description of objects, its faces edges and vertices ie (4x4=16) and for 1st position 10 marks ,2nd position 7 marks ,3rd position 5 and 4th position 2 marks .Students to be awarded at the end of the race.

Variations
Inter -House Mathematical hurdle relay race can be conducted for students (6-8).
Number of hurdles can be increased and likewise number of participatory students may be increased.
It can be conducted in 200 meter track.
Mathematical Hurdle Relay Race to be conducted separately for girls and boys.
Coaching Tips
Students will be encouraged to collect 3-D shapes they come across while playing games or sports.
Students may be encouraged to organised the race.
Students help can be taken for preparing the ground .
Students can be made judges at finishing point.
