Solar System And Running Track

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explore the knowledge about the speed, directions, revolution time of various planets of solar system.
  2. Students will understand why the planets have their different revolution time around the sun.
  3. Enable the students to develop various dimensions of learning skills like critical thinking, analytics, comparison, collaboration, creativity etc.
  4. Pupil will in able to understand the path or orbit of various planets
  5. Students will get the complete knowledge about solar system and its components like the sun, the moon, the earth and other planets as well as asteroids, meteoroids and dwarf planets.
  6. Students will get knowledge about the eclipse like solar and lunar also.

 

Description Of Activity

How to play

  1. At first, we select nine students for activity.
  2. We named them as the sun and eight other planets like mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
  3. Before this we mark the ground as orbit of various planets which are very similar to running tracks on, we can also use the already constructed running tracks as orbits or path of other planets.
  4. In center, we put a student with name the sun, then according to solar system in various tracks we keep various students with name of different planets like near to Sun, mercury then according to distance from sun Venus, Earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus then Neptune.
  5. We command planet named students to walk or to run along the path.
  6. We record the starting time and finishing time on completion of one round.
  7. We repeat this process 10 times and by doing this We get a data table of round completion Time Of various Planets.
  8. By showing this data table and analyzing the result. Students can easily understand, that the planets, near to Sun are taking less time to complete one revolution, while the planets which situated far from the sun, are taking more times.
  9. After this, students compare the Real Revolution time of various planets, with their data collected by the activity.

 

Variations

  1. With this activity we can also add more things like some students can be given names of satellites of different planets and ask the students to go with or around the planets while planets are going around the sun.
  2. By this activity. We can Show the movement of satellites around the planet.
  3. Similarly, by putting. Various students. With various names. Like satellites, asteroids, meteoroids, dwarf planets, students can understand the concept of solar system and its family.
  4. If we put a student as the moon, between the sun and the earth, then command them to move along the track, by doing this we command them, to stop or start. If by commanding stop the student with the name of moon lie between the sun and the earth, we can show the students about the incidence of solar eclipse.
  5. Similarly, if the student with name the earth will lie between the sun and the moon, incidence of lunar eclipse can be easily understood by the pupil.

Coaching Tips

  1. By doing this activity qualities like discipline, obeying, collaboration. Critical thinking, analysis approach can be developed among students.
  2. While doing activity students can develop the qualities like adjustment, leadership, dealing with others, Planning for the group as well as readiness/alertness.
  3. Teacher encourage the students to compare the primary data with real data of planets.

Equipment/Material Required

Running Tracks / Chalk drawn tracks. 
Lime powder/paint for drawing the court of Kabaddi. 
Measurement tape, Spade, nails and tools, turf.
