100 Meter Sprint-Subtraction Of Decimals

Description Of Activity

How to play

  1. Students will divided in to 5 groups of 8 students in each group.
  2. Among the 5 groups, one group at a time is taken as a participant group for participating in 100 m sprint and the other 4 groups are taken as the score recording groups to record the time taken by the 8 participants.
  3. Each student in each group of 4 groups are assigned to 1 student of participating groups.
  4. Students will record the time taken by each student in reaching 100 m distance with the help of a stop watch.
  5. The students in score recording groups will observe the time i.e. numbers in the decimal form. they will observe a decimal point in between the digits of the number and so they find that the numbers are decimal numbers.
  6. Similarly, the same steps are followed to the remaining students in the remaining groups.
  7. Now the students are asked to observe time taken by 1st position, 2nd position and 3rd position in each group. they come to know that the 1st position student is few seconds less than the second position student and similarly 3rd position student time is more than the time taken by the 2nd and 1st position students. they find the difference between the time taken by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position.
  8. In this way students will learn the concept of subtraction of decimals.
    During this activity the students show the team spirit in encouragement and empty to the participants.
