Shuttle Run - Equation

Learning Outcomes

  1. Use trial and error method to find the solution of the given equation.
  2. Evaluation of the given values of the variable  as possible  solutions to the equation.
  3. Helps in development of agility, fitness of body and mental health which keeps the brain quick and sharp.

Description Of Activity

Shuttle run (Equation Game)

  1. Teacher divides the students  into 4 teams and each team lines up behind each of the small 4 cones which are arranged  at one end of the play area and in the rest of the sport area the tall cones  numbered from 1 to 10 are arranged  at random.
  2. Teacher calls out an equation and the students have to solve it mentally, go and run around the cone and back. For eg.if the teacher  calls out x+2=5, the answer would be 3,  and so the first player in each team will  solve it out quickly , run around the cone numbered 3 and run  back to their team as fast as they can.
  3. Teacher can give points to the students who come first, second, third . and fourth.
  4. The game can be continued till all the students get their turn and the team who have scored the highest  can be declared the winner.

Variations

Instead of running the students can go around the numbered cones by hopping, by tapping or by dribbling.

Coaching Tips

Teacher can make use of algebraic equations involving all the different operations of mathematics.Encourage students to play safely and with a healthy competitive spirit.

Equipment/Material Required

Opportunity to solve a problem must be given to every individual participant of each team. also chance to discuss the problem within the team in case a participant is unable to solve the problem may be provided, This would encourage co-operative learning.
