This game helps children to master body control. Hopscotch also helps children to manage body rhythm, which is the core of numerous other skills. Movements involved build body strength, balance, eye/hand coordination and more. It's a great “social campfire” for young children.

Description Of Activity

How to Play

  1. Draw a traditional hopscotch diagram like the one below. (Chalk is best for asphalt and pavement outdoors
  2. The teacher asks the students to draw 5 giant number lines on the playground and  mark all the integers from -10 to 10 on the number line at equal intervals.
  3. Teacher divides the students into 5 teams.
  4. Teacher explains the rules:
  5. First stand at the point 0 on the number line.
  6. To add positive integers, jump the number of required steps in forward direction ie,.in the positive  direction.
  7. To add negative integers, jump the number of required steps in  backward direction ie. In the negative direction.
  8. Each Team is given 6 sets  of integers which are to be added. For eg. like 4+(-2)+5.
  9. The team which completes first all the questions correctly is declared the winner.

Variations

  1. Instead of jumping, the students can go  from one number to next by hopping or skipping.
  2. Set the timer for 30 seconds. Each player must complete the course within the time frame to proceed. If you go into overtime, you lose your turn.

Coaching Tips
