CLASSIFYING MICROBES THROUGH MUSICAL CHAIR

Learning Outcomes

 

Differentiate between the four groups of microorganisms.

Describe the common characteristic features of each groupof microbes viz: bacteria, protozoa, algae and fungi.

Develop teamwork, co ordination and fitness

 

Description Of Activity

 

1.Assemble the students in their house shirt in the ground.

2.The teacher select one student each from the four different houses ( blue, green , yellow and red) as group leader. Red shirts as bacteria, blue as protozoa, green as algae and yellow as fungi.

3. The leaders will form four different lines each with a playcard in their hand showing the name of microbe.

4. The remaining students will form a circle around the chairs that are stationed at the ground.

5. The PT teacher will monitered the game.

6. The science teacher will play the music and the students run around the chair.

7. When the teacher puts off the music the students will rush to occupy the chairs.

8.The student who does not get a chair to sit will be out of the game and join the leader of his/her house in the line. the ssudent will read out a characteristic feature of group.

9. This way the game will be continued and seggregation will continue till the winner is announced.

 

 

    1. The circle represents our ecosystem.

    2. Different house shirts represent different microbes.

    3.    Reading out the characteristic feature help them to understand the nature of the microbes.

Variations

 

1.Coloured caps / house flag can be used instead of play cards.

2.Music teacher and group leaders can sing live songs instead of playing music.

Encourage students  to improve fitness , listening skill and observation.
